Dr. Mukundan has vast experience in both adult and pediatric heart surgery with training prestigious institutes in India, New Zealand and England. He has been a silver medalist in General surgerya nd Gold Medalist in Cardiac Surgery. After extensive training in New Zealand and Egnland, he cam back to India and headed the department of Cardiovascular Surgery at prestigious Perambur Railway Hospital in Chennai for 4-1/2 years and brought it to the highest International Standards spearheading new therapies in valve repair, replacement and heart failure surgery. He subsequently moved to Bangalore in 2002 and started the beating heart surgery programme in various hospitals in Bangalore.
With more than 18 years expereince in 3 different countries, he has performed more than 8000 open-heart surgeries including 2500 beating heart surgeries. He has special interest for surgery in heart failure, Maze operation for atrial fibrillation, pediatric heart surgery, aortic aneurysm surgery and one of the larget series in India for stentless aortic valve replacement. He is also passionate about newer minimally invasive and keyhole surgery for conditions like atrial spetal defect, ventricular septal defect, aortic and mitral valve replacement and coronary artery bypass grafting.
He has presented papers in national and International meetings and has publications in prestigious National and International Journals.
