Choosing a destination
The cheapest country is not always the best one for you. These are the checks to go through before you choose.
Look for JCI (Joint Commission International) or a recognised national accreditation, and check your surgeon's registration with the local medical council.
Add flights, hotel, a companion and recovery days to the quoted price. Packages often include transfers, an interpreter and follow-up.
Long flights soon after surgery raise the risk of blood clots. Ask how many days you need to stay before you fly home.
Rules depend on your nationality. Check the destination's official government site; hospitals can issue a treatment invitation letter.
Check for an international patients desk, interpreters, and one coordinator who stays with you before, during and after treatment.
Ask who looks after you once you are home: remote follow-up, records in English, and what happens if a complication needs treatment.

Send your treatment and budget. A care coordinator replies with destinations and hospitals that fit.

How we compile this page
Every figure on this page is read from the listings when the page loads, and each price says when it was last updated.
The hospitals and clinics listed on Health-Tourism.com in each country and city, counted when the page loads.
Listed hospitals that hold JCI (Joint Commission International) accreditation. A hospital whose JCI status we found expired or missing on the register is not counted.
The lowest starting price listed for each treatment in that country, converted to US dollars. Prices are not quotes; the table shows when each was last updated.
Great-circle distance between the two cities at 800 km/h, plus 30 minutes. Journeys with a connection take longer.
Countries under a US State Department Level 4 advisory show no prices and no quote buttons, with a link to the advice.
Countries are listed by region and name, or by the sort you choose. Payment never changes the order of any list on this page.
FAQ
Short, direct answers about where to go, what it costs, visas, flights and recovery. Each answer is 50 words or fewer.
Choosing a destination
There is no single best country. The right choice depends on your treatment, budget, travel time and the hospital's accreditation. Compare starting prices, flight times and JCI-accredited hospitals for your procedure on this page.
It depends on the treatment. Pick yours in the comparison table to see every country that lists it, cheapest first, in US dollars. Add flights, hotel and recovery days before you compare.
Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia are about 4–6 hours' flying time from New York and closer from Texas or Florida. Choose your city in the table to see each country's estimate.
From London, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Poland and Croatia are about 2–3 hours away and Istanbul about 3½. Choose your city in the table to see each country's estimate.
Before you travel
It depends on your nationality and the country. Many destinations allow short visits visa-free or with an e-visa; others need a medical visa. Check the destination's official government site, and ask the hospital for an invitation letter if you need one.
JCI (Joint Commission International) accreditation shows a hospital meets international patient-safety standards. National accreditations such as Thai HA or NABH in India also count. Neither replaces checking your surgeon's credentials.
It depends on the procedure: a few days after minor surgery, and up to two weeks after a knee or hip replacement. Your surgeon decides when it is safe to fly.
About this page
Counts are the hospitals and clinics listed on Health-Tourism.com. Prices are the lowest starting prices listed for each treatment, with the date each was updated. Flight times estimate nonstop air time between the two cities.
The US government advises against all travel to them (Level 4: Do Not Travel). We keep them listed, without prices or quote buttons. Check your own government's travel advice before planning.
