He has been the guiding force behind the hospital. In recognition of his achievements and contributions towards modern ophthalmology, he was honoured with the Padma Shree in 1990.
After M.S. in Ophthalmology worked at the Moorfields Eye Hospital and the Institute of Ophthalmology, London. Since then the Shroff Eye Clinic has been associated with the latest instrumentation and technology in the field of ophthalmology first in the country to do modern retinal surgeries in 1962 with the use of implants, cryosurgery for retinal detachment and cataract [1968], fundus fluorescein angiography [1970], Xenon arc photocoagulation, the precursor of the argon laser [1973], microscopic cataract surgery [1975], vitrectomy [1978], Argon laser, Krypton laser, phacoemulsification and A scan sonography [1983]. The Shroff Eye Clinic contributes significantly to the development of new techniques.
